Step 1:
Make a sketch of your ideas, what kind of bag you want. I want to make bag of ca. DIN A4 format, so i can put my uni stuffs in it.
Choose suitable fabrics. I definitley like linen fabric, so i choosed it.

Step 2:
Decorate your fabric..I have choosed a plain fabric, so i want to decorate it with a wonderful flower embroidery, which i sketchted it a time ago. If you don’t like embroidery (what a pitty, it gives a fabric
very special look), then use printing methods or applique something on it. See here for an example.
Draw your design on a paper with “transfer pencil” and then iron it on a fabric which you want to embroider on it.

Step 3:
Choose the thread for embroidery. Make some exemplar stitches on other part of same fabric.

|
|
Step 4:
Feed your soul. Make a break and collect yourself. And go...
|
|
|

Step 5:
Embroider on your motif. I used here backstitch
|
|
|
|
|
|
Step 6:
finished embroidery motif.

Step 7:
Cut your fabrics and sew the edges with zigzag. I actualy cut the linen fabric and zigzaged it before i begin to embroider it ;)

Step 8:
Sew the handles and turn back. As the photos show
|
|
|
|
|
|
Step 9:
Iron them and sew the edges again.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Step 10:
Put the handles where you want and pay attention how long they should be.Sew where the green finger shows. My handles are 42 cm long.
After sewing, it should be looks like this photo.

Step 11:
Iron them and tie together the 2 sides of bag. Pay attention again that the handles are in same places, where the green finger shows
|
|
|
|
|
|
Step 12:
The bag almost looks like finished. But i thought i should give some special character, so i decided to embroidery with silk ribbon
And looks like this. Don't stitch the red fabric, just the the linen.

|
|
|
Step 13:
Sew it from backside red fabric on red one and linen on linen. As shown here on step 6. Before you close the hole (Step 8)

Result:
Tadaaaaaa, here is your very speacial own designed handmade bag. I can convince you, it makes more fun then buyed one.
